Mathematical modelling of Covid-19

Many mathematicians and physicists are projecting various things using mathematical models such as

1. Number of Covid-19 infections expected in a country, region or a city with or without various measures initiated by the government.

2. Number of ICU beds, ventilators and other elements of health infrastructure required

The need of the hour is to flatten the curve representing hospital admissions due to Covid-19.

According to the calculations of Samit Bhattacharya, a mathematical modeller and an associate professor of mathematics, the Corona virus had a reproductive number of 2.2 to 3 in Wuhan in the initial stages. If reproductive number > 1, the epidemic is spreading exponentially.

To bring this epidemic under control, it should be reproductive number < 1
